The sad truth is that Ronaldo will probably never again win the Ballon D’Or regardless of what he does. He could score 100 goals, win La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey and people will still find an excuse to choose Messi. Ronaldo has always been portrayed as the demon whilst Messi has always been portrayed as the angel. When Ronaldo has a bad game he is labeled as a big-game flop (rarely happens these days) But when Messi has a bad game, you hear “well, maybe he is human after all”. Messi is arguably the greatest player of all time, but so is Ronaldo. Messi’s advantage is that he is likable, whereas Ronaldo has millions of haters.
Cristiano Ronaldo is already among the greatest of all time. His goal scoring exploits are seemingly impossible. He is the perfect modern footballer: Outstanding technically and one of the greatest pure athletes to have ever played the sport. In addition, he is quite possibly the most complete attacking player to have ever played the game. He can score with BOTH feet from 30+ yards out, his Olympic sprinter fast, powerful, creative, skillful, dominant in the air, deadly from set pieces, etc.
Messi is also among the greatest of all time and has to deserved at least two of his Ballon D’or’s, but I do think it is unfair that he will always win regardless of what Ronaldo does.
Both are spectacular footballers with very different styles of play. Let’s stop arguing about who is better. Let’s enjoy these two gods of the beautiful game while they are here.”
